About DIMI
Integrated approach for resolving societal issues
DIMI focuses on urgent societal issues which are related to vital infrastructures for water safety and for smart mobility and which are inherently linked to the natural and built environment for which an integrated approach is needed.
Deltas, cities, ports and airports are geographical systems with different scales within a spatial and environmental context. They are based on networks of civil and vital infrastructures and inherent critical sub‐systems of services and activities related to flood management, transport and logistics. Societal issues emerging from these systems or threatening these systems by extreme weather and flooding can’t be resolved by addressing only its components. Due to the strong interdependency and complexity, an integrated approach is needed. Without this, solutions will be sub‐optimal at the system level.
Delft Infrastructures & Mobility Initiative thus contributes effectively to sustainable societal wellbeing and economic prosperity:
- by developing and stimulating an integrated approach, multi- and interdisciplinary research and education, within and outside TU Delft.
- by delivering (contributions to) innovative sustainable, resilient and adaptable solutions, well-educated and employable graduates and by facilitating life time learning;
- and by facilitating and stimulating scientists and students to position TU Delft as an international leading university on the domains of Infrastructures & Mobility.
